NASCAR Racing…Venting and other ramblings

Hope on Oct 14th 2007

I’ve been fighting, well I’m not sure what to call it, lets just say I’ve felt like crap from top to bottom in so many variety of ways for about a week so I’m a bit tired, cranky and possibly whiny lol

Talladega, blew… boring… and anything else you can think of as not a great race. I literally fell asleep, only briefly but that is because sometimes in car audio is a bit LOUD. Anywho, I was so sad that I wasn’t able to be there and had some friends giving me a hard time about me missing Dega (in a mostly fun way lol) and about 2/3’s a way through the race I sent a few text messages to let them know how I felt like I was the true winner in it all as I had plenty of room to stretch out on my own couch and they were stuck crammed in between some not so savory folks (as they had complained about earlier in the race via text messages). And not it wasn’t rednecks they were surrounded with… they wouldn’t have noticed that lol ;) My opinion on Villa-what’s his name is that ‘Dega was the wrong race for ANYONE to start with but I said that from the moment it was a rumor. I don’t know if it was the car, the drivers change in attitude with the new car or what but I’ve never been more bored watching a ‘Dega race and the earlier one this year wasn’t exactly the most action packed.

I’m so glad that I listen to at least 3 if not more drivers in car audio through the whole race, well except when they all pit together lol but anywho… for ‘Dega I was able to hear that a lot of people were having the same problems and were finding a fix very differently or not get fixed at all….but for the most part a lot of humor on the radios lol …  for Charlotte… well a lot of guys on various teams having the same issues as each other, I truly do love hearing all the different ways they each go about fixing the same problem. I’ve learned a lot over the years with this, although the way Trackpass is set up now it is easier to learn more at one time than over several races. :) I’m not sure how people can listen to just one driver for the most part and get a true idea of how a driver/crew chief/spotter are supposed to react/chat/fix/etc A driver being upset I can deal with, being whiny over a long period of time… not so much. I did get a kick out of a die hard Gordon fan this past week talking to me about Dale Jr’s radio communication, I didn’t understadn why he would turn off his beloved Gordon to listen to a guy he doesn’t like (but y’all have heard that type of rant before from me lol) especially since he is techy challenged and can only listen to one driver at a time…I pointed out that things such as how many people (and the age and other information of the person listening) are listening to which drivers etc are things that they keep up with to give them loads of marketing information. So in effect he just earned Dale Jr one more “tick” and took away a “tick” of his favorite driver Gordon because he listened to Dale Jr longer lol . Just knowing how much that information frustrated him had me giggling when I really didn’t feel like giggling lol

Charlotte again I was sad that I wasn’t there. Very sad. I had so much fun earlier in the year being there and I love being in Charlotte in October (less chaos going on than what they have in May…well less fan chaos lol) Lots of events to go to and enjoy as a fan and give a lot back to charity. I’m all about those type of events regardless if I’m a fan of the driver or not. I have heard nothing but good things from all of the events that I knew people going to…that is always a good thing!

How does David Gilliand still have a ride and David Stremme still be in limbo? I so don’t get that….

Kudos to Mars for getting Kyle Busch as their driver (totally being sarcastic here) lol And to my wonderful Texas gal, no this still doesn’t mean that I’ll stop eating peanut M&Ms, I’ll just have to do it in hiding or while wearing a LARGER “I support the food not the driver” sign lol The one you made for me just isn’t quite large enough BUT the good news is my 18 Green & White IB lamp doesn’t have to get a sign attached to it now lol

Can’t wait for the next season when the sight of the 96 car doesn’t make me groan loudly…. I’ll enjoy the commercials a lot more with JJ in that car lol

I love Saturday night races during football season lol I get to watch college ball on Saturday and racing on Friday/Saturday and NFL on Sunday.

I love good games just like I love good races. I don’t want to know who is going to win “for sure” until the last second or last lap.

Thanks to my friends in Charlotte for I guess what can be called “the Sadler call” although I’m sure the laughter was heard all the way from AL to NC lol Some things just should never be said out loud!

Heard a very heartwarming Kasey Kahne story from a very recent encounter, very proud to be a fan of both the 9 and the 19.

Okay I’ll say it, I’m not sure how great a thing it will be for JC to be coming straight into GEM until a little more time in the Busch series is had but that’s how I feel about any driver be it a “real” rookie or a driver from another driving style/series but most of my friends know that this isn’t a new opinion of mine.

I think the new pad has finally been broken in dude lol I got the call, texts and even an email about the great fun had lol Now if I can just get pictures lol oh wait we did get those lol well the tamer ones at least.

Lots of great times being had in Canada this weekend! Hearing nothing but rave reviews!

Why do people care so much what other people do if it doesn’t alter their own day UNTIL they care so much lol The B&M line is to the right thank you very much! :)

Did I miss where turning your back on someone you believe in to align with someone that you’ve repeatedly spoken on how much you don’t believe in is a good thing that should be applauded? Hey if you sell yourself out, don’t be coming to me for a pat on the back about how wonderful it is. It isn’t wonderful it is disappointing. But I’m glad that at least I know how you truly move and don’t follwo your heart.

The new television shows this year for the MOST part (as in not all lol) have been pretty disappointing. Not finding a lot of new shows that I’ll continue to take time for……

If you aren’t there during the hard times… do not think for a second that you’ll reap the benefits of the good times :)

And last but not least….thanks babe for the late night calls that has helped my crazier than usual sleeping be a little bit enjoyable.

Rodney Atkins touched by boy’s tragic story

Hope on Oct 14th 2007

Rodney Atkins touched by boy’s tragic story

By ROB NAY, SUN MEDIA

With a heartfelt song, a country music star boosted the spirits of a young Winnipeg boy whose father was stabbed to death earlier this year.

Prior to opening for Brad Paisley at a concert at MTS Centre on Friday night, Rodney Atkins met with the family of John Lane, a 25-year-old single parent killed last March.

Besides signing autographs and taking pictures, Atkins dedicated Lane’s favorite song to the slain man’s four-year-old son, Jordan, during the concert.

“It was just an incredible night for this family,” said Cheryl Friesen, a close family friend who attended the show.

Jordan’s grandmother, Pam Lane, said he loved the concert.

“He was standing on his chair, just dancing,” said Pam.

In March, John Lane was fatally stabbed in his Crestview apartment on March 17. Erik Ryan Cassan, 21, a stranger to Lane who had been invited to the apartment by someone else, was charged with second-degree murder.

Before Friday’s performance, Friesen had contacted Atkins’ fan club and also called a local radio station while the country star was being interviewed to explain how important his music was to Lane and his son.

The U.S. recording artist took an interest and the family received an invitation to a meet-and-greet as well as four VIP tickets to the show.

During his set, Atkins dedicated his tune Watching You — a song about a father and young son — to Jordan.

Friesen said Jordan was waving at Atkins the whole time, adding the tune was also played at Lane’s funeral.

After the song, audience members also showed support.

“I had people coming up in the audience that were just hugging Jordan,” said Pam.

PORCELAIN ANGEL

Prior to the concert, Jordan picked a gift to present Atkins — a porcelain angel that had belonged to his father. The singer seemed touched by the gesture, said Friesen, and brought the angel onstage. Before Lane’s death, he had been raising Jordan on his own.

“John and him were joined at the hip. John was an amazing dad,” said Pam, adding Jordan misses his father.

“He talks about John all the time. Sometimes he walks around in his dad’s clothes,” said Pam.

Since John Lane’s death, Pam and her husband, Gerald Lane, have been raising Jordan and the family has also set up a trust fund for him at the TD Canada Trust at 3260 Portage Ave.

At Friday’s concert, Atkins also took down the family’s contact information to send something for Jordan.

“He was just incredible,” Friesen said of the country star.

Ramblings

Hope on Oct 3rd 2007

Jazzed up some pre-packaged chicken fried rice for dinner last night and it kind rocked lol

Then I had to get all creative today with making my own kind of Sub sandwich, 5 Cheese, chicken, bacon, ranch, etc. As Rachel Ray would say YUMMO!

Rodney is in DC today with the National Council for Adoption and I couldn’t be prouder of him!

Hearing great news from people you love just makes you smile.

Hearing bad news from other people you love makes you just want to wrap them up in a hug.

Cheers to all my party crowd friends that will be hitting the road this weekend for football game, racing and “other” lol

Well Chuck has lost me…. I just can’t hang on a little too much goof not enough….well not enough of anything else lol

I still love Journeyman, a lot!

Looking forward to Law & Order: Criminal Intent on USA this week…

Reaper is not for me. Like the actors, not the show.

I admit I sat through Cavemen and I had to fight sleep so yeah, not going there again.

I really want to like Carpoolers…. I LOVE Jerry but not sure I’ll be able to hang. Will give it another shot though :)

Does Jimmy Smits rock in Cane or WHAT? :)

I knew it wasn’t going to happen but can’t say I wasn’t hoping for a surprise ending on CSI Miami where Horatio went poof lol

Tom Selleck on Las Vegas I think will work… I was not sure at first when hearing about it but after seeing the first episode. I like it.

Dancing with the Stars…. ALBERT WAS ROBBED lol

The story of a hero

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A year ago Monday, Susan Brown lay dying in a pool of her own blood.

You see, just hours after Tony Stewart limped across the finish line to take the checkered flag at Kansas Speedway, two masked men with guns stormed into the speedway’s vault and demanded what was inside. Only Brown, a detective with the Kansas City, Kan., police department, didn’t want to hand over the roughly $1 million that was inside.

Instead, she stood strong, directing employees into another room as a shootout ensued. Bullets flew back and forth. Several hit Brown. But even as she lay bleeding on the floor, Brown did not give up the fight. She returned fire and forced the robbers to flee – empty-handed.

When they did, Brown was finally able to radio for help.

“10-60,” she said weakly.

Officer has been shot.

———————————

While most Cup drivers were never aware of what happened – most having jetted back to Charlotte by the time of the shooting – Elliott Sadler sent emails of support, while his mother sent Brown flowers and a note saying their prayers were with Brown and her family. Several NASCAR officials also have regularly kept in touch.
